This is not simply a matter for the BBC, but for the Government and all DTT multiplex providers (including the BBC). As with the introduction of colour and NICAM stereo, the roll out of digital terrestrial signals to the many hundreds of transmitters and relays that serve all parts of the UK will take some time. To launch the DTT service this autumn with nearly 70% coverage of the UK already in place is a very considerable achievement and represents a considerable investment. However, we recognise that there will be significant gaps at launch, particularly in Scotland and Wales. There will be further roll out over time, progressively, but it will depend on digital take-up rates and available investment.
