What places hire at 14?
Very few places hire at 14 because of labor laws. They’re stricter for 14, less for 15, less for 16, 17, and then at 18 the person is obviously an adult. Most employers, if they’re allowed to hire younger, will avoid it so steer clear of any labor law problems. I agree with the paper route idea. Ask around at a place like a roller skating rink – I know there’s one in my city that hires at 14. Check out small businesses too. Large companies like Walmart, Kohls, McDonalds etc sometimes have strict rules in effect regarding age and just say 16 and older. If you ask round at little family businesses (restaurant, small grocery store, etc) they might be willing to hire you! Don’t get discouraged if you don’t find anything quickly! Most places hire at 16, and even when I turned 16, I applied all over – 20+ places – before I got my 1st job. Good luck on your job search!
