What placement criteria are utilized and when are decisions made for students entering grade 6?

All 5th grade students are assessed with the Student Oral Proficiency Assessment (SOPA) in May. Decisions for placement in either Strand A or Strand B are made following that assessment. Placement is based on the elementary world language teacher’s recommendations and overall level on the SOPA.
