Former Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight contender Ivan Salaverry (11-5) is set to make his return to the Octagon on May 26th. The official UFC website is reporting that Salaverry will take on Terry Martin (15-2) at UFC 71, which will take place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas Nevada. Salaverry has not competed in the UFC since August of 2005, when he dropped a Unanimous Decision victory to Nathan Marquardt at Ultimate Fight Night 1. Salaverry is a middleweight veteran of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the now-defunct World Fighting Alliance. After a long layoff, he made his UFC return at UFC 71, losing to Terry Martin. He is also notable for being a pioneer of the crucifix-style position from side control, which is often referred to as “The Salaverry” during Mixed Martial Arts broadcasts, particularly by UFC commentator Joe Rogan.
