The protein expressed in the Cry1F gene is different from other plant-based Bt endotoxins currently registered and sold in seed corn, in that it protects the plant from several destructive corn insects, thus making Herculex I the broadest-spectrum in-plant insect protection trait for corn hybrids available today. Herculex I offers protection against European corn borer (ECB), Southwestern corn borer (SWCB), western bean cutworm (WBCW), black cutworm (BCW) and fall armyworm (FAW) and intermediate suppression of corn earworm (CEW).
