What personality should be expected from a Cairn?
The American Cairn is a bit smaller than the typical European Cairn, but generally all Cairns are alert and intelligent, playful even into their teens. They have large teeth and large feet with strong nails for digging so most owners should expect digging to be a natural tendency in Cairns. The natural tenacity of the Cairn Terrier can also get the smaller dog into trouble if the owner does not set some limits early.
