What Performance Measures can be used by courts handling DWI cases?
Roger Warren stated: “the rule of law itself is a two-edged sword” because it not only ensures the protection of rights, but also enforces responsibilities.34 The rule of law holds government officials accountable to those in whose name they govern to prevent the abuse of power, and the judiciary is not exempt from this type of general accountability. Results-driven public organizations begin with shared responsibility for achieving success. The first steps require a plan that includes 1) quantifying a vision by translating it into specific, measurable, and achievable results, and 2) developing the capacity to determine whether the results have been achieved.35 Performance measures are needed to measure progress and to establish a standard for success.
