What percentage of students graduate in four years?
Eighty-three percent of students who graduate from Vanderbilt complete their requirements in four years or less. Of course, there are students who do not graduate in four years. Many students choose to take additional course work, change majors, study abroad, participate in internships or cooperative programs, or simply leave the University.
• How large are freshman classes? • Only five percent of 100-level courses are larger than 100 students. Most large lecture courses have a small discussion, quiz or lab section. Some of the large lecture courses are large due to an outstanding faculty member or being an interesting general education requirement option. • What percentage of courses are taught by teaching assistants? • Approximately 25-30 percent of all undergraduate courses are taught by graduate students, many of whom are in the last phase of doctoral studies. Many faculty are involved in teaching along with research and bring a combination of both experiences to the classroom. Teaching assistants provide another opportunity for new ideas to be shared in the classroom, small group discussion or office hours.
