Procedures: First review an excellent sample Hardy-Weinberg problem from the internet. You should review the method with students and go over a couple example problems as well. Next, have students form groups of 2 students. No Computers Method: If you do not have enough computers for each group you can have groups perform calculations using paper and a calculator. Be sure students either have a handout or have notes on how to perform the calculations. Each group should be assigned or select one of the traits from the Genetics Project to complete. Afterwards each group can report to the class their findings. Students should report the frequencies of each allele and the percent of the population that should be homozygous dominant, heterozygous dominant and homozygous recessive using the Hardy-Weinberg equation.
