What penalties can someone expect for a second drink driving charge in 2 years?
UK – I think you could be looking at losing your licence for a long period, possibility that you may have to retake your test. You will not get your licence back automatically after your ban as you will have to have an independent medical to prove you are no longer drinking. You may face jail – there will be a fine & points on your licence. As this is second time in less than 10 years you will lose your licence for 3 years min. You could be placed on a drink drive rehab course or community service. All depends on judge really. Shame you didn’t learn your lesson first time. You will also find it very difficult to get insurance when you do get a licence again.
Depends on where you are. If you get to keep your driving privilege at all, you WILL have to have a Breath Alcohol Ignition Interlock Device in most states. That’ll be $50-100 a month. Alcohol still in your body from the previous night’s drinking will prevent you from starting your car the next morning. So come up with some good excuses for being late to work. You may also be ordered to wear a Continuous Alcohol Monitor ankle bracelet. That’s at least $300 a month. Usually closer to $400. So you’re at $500 a month now just to stay out of jail and we haven’t even begun to pay the court costs, adult supervision, your defense attorney’s fees….etc… So you’re just going to sit it out in jail. Okay. But the judge can still order the ignition interlock and ankle monitor on your release. After all you are a repeat offender. You’re screwed.
