What peculiar qualities distinguish a beachwear designer from other fashion designers?
First of all I should explain that I am not specialized in beachwear but clothing. Experience has told me that a designer, if he/she is really “creative”, can design anything he/she likes. Take me for example: I design technical lines for high mountains sports, but I have also designed and made various wedding dresses and evening gowns, along with accessories, bags and children’ s wear. However, this job does not stop at the design stage: a fashion designer should be aware of all the problems of a collection, the characteristics of a fabric and the various aspects of modelling. Coming from the clothing industry, it was particularly difficult for me to adapt to the model papers of swimwear presented at Cannes, because in this field fabric and wearability work by different rules. In short I think a designer should be creative and ready to catch the general fashion trends in order to be able to offer new input.
