What peculiar qualities/attitudes distinguish a beachwear designer from other fashion designers?
I don’t think there are big differences, apart from the fact that a costume designer should come from the ranks of fashion designers and not vice versa, in order to acquire the necessary sewing techniques and to learn making a paper model. These are necessary capabilities if you want to create any type of dress or costume which should not only be beautiful and attractive as a drawing, but also feasible and wearable. As for the rest, the necessary qualities are the same: creativity, inventiveness, fantasy. In short everything that distinguishes an “artist”. Maybe at first sight costume design may appear easier because it requires less time. But in reality the special kind of material and the limited quantity of fabric used do not allow for fanciful eye catchers, therefore the work is even more difficult.
