Land of Hope and Glory. Unlike America English patriotism has been actively discouraged in favour of ‘Britishness’ which means nothing to me personally. Scottish, Welsh and Irish patriotism is apparently acceptable but God forbid the indigenous English be patriotic. That’s why you don’t hear patriotic songs, or see flags other than during international football matches.
