What part of the world does Saffron come from?
Iran by far produces the most of the worlds saffron both in terms of the quantity and the quality. Iranian Saffron farmers for years have been known to the world market for their excellent production. Sadly, however, in the hand of the profiteers and middlemen, saffron from different part of the world is mixed to maximize the profit in the worlds market. Lower price rules and the quality take a back seat. One can easily notice the lower quality and additives by opening a sample of inferior saffron and realizing the mixture of red, yellow and white material style left attached to the stigma or the yellow coloring additive. You may also notice a musty smell and spongy texture due to excess moisture. On the other hand, we farm, produce and package our own saffron within our own cooperative establishment for the consumption among natives at a standard acceptable to those very familiar with saffron and understand it.
