What part of the “Morning Glory” plant is poison to dogs?
Morning glory plants, AKA Ipomoea spp. contain alkaloids in all parts, the leaves, flowers and seeds. The ASPCA list Ipomoea as toxic to cats and dogs. Poisoning symptoms can include gastrointestinal upset, agitation, tremors, disorientation, ataxia, anorexia. The seeds may cause hallucination and/or diarrhea. If your pet has eaten a mroning glory, call the vet immediately. The best resources I have found about plants poisonous to animals include Indiana Plants Poisonous to Livestock and Pets – http://www.vet.purdue.edu/toxic/cover1.htm , Cornell Univ. Plants Poisonous to Livestock and other Animals – http://www.ansci.cornell.edu/plants/ and the American Society of Prevention and Cruelty to Animals Poison Control Center – http://www.aspca.
