What part does public involvement play in the MPO planning process?
The ongoing regional transportation-planning process relies on public participation to gather input and guidance for studies and certification documents. The MPO actively solicits information and receives and responds to comments year-round by phone, e-mail, and U.S. mail, and at public meetings. Typically the draft Transportation Improvement Program and the draft Unified Planning Work Program are developed by the MPO´s Transportation Planning and Programming Committee from late spring to early summer. The Committee releases the draft documents for a midsummer public-review period. The MPO finalizes the certification documents in late summer.
