What part did current economic, social, cultural and even global issues play in this year’s color forecast?

Jordan: Historically, in times of a downturn in the economy, colors tend to be less vivid, so this year’s forecast colors are slightly muted compared to the past few years, but in no way devoid of color. Comparatively speaking, past decades of economic downturn saw a much more dramatic change in color. Culture always plays a role as we seek inspiration from different parts of the globe. The Latin American culture is an important influence this year, with many of the hottest travel destinations being Buenos Aires, Costa Rica and Brazil. In addition, economic growth in different parts of the world sparks our interest to discover what is causing that growth, then exploring the culture, art and architecture for inspiration.
