What parking spaces qualify for the exemption for special events?
The exemption available under section 20 of the Congestion Levy Act 2005 is for parking spaces in the Levy area that are only available when used in connection with special events. In order for the parking spaces to attract this exemption, their availability must be wholly linked to an event being held and they cannot be available for parking at other times. The exemption is not intended to apply to parking spaces that are available generally throughout the year but may be restricted at certain times to certain people attending a particular event. A clear example of the type of parking that will be covered by the exemption is parking made available in Yarra Park when there are events held at the MCG or Melbourne Park.
