We welcome the idea of moving towards one pay system for all NHS staff. For the first time in many years, senior managers would become part of mainstream NHS bargaining and not just have to get by with individual contracts. However, we feel that there are several aspects of the current proposals which need clarification or amendment during the Early Implementer process. If the UNISON members’ ballot agrees to take part in the Early Implementers what steps will UNISON be taking to ensure senior managers’ jobs are appropriately banded? We will be giving detailed advice to all activists as to how to decide if members’ jobs match up to any nationally agreed job profiles. This will include advice on how to ensure the job questionnaire, which will influence the banding, is completed properly. We will seek to ensure that the factor plan which determines how jobs fare in the job evaluation scheme is interpreted fairly.
