What other origin of life theories has science come up with other than evolution?
Evolution is not an origin of life theory. Evolution only started working after the first living organisms appeared and could be subject to evolutionary forces like natural selection and genetic drift. The processes under which life arose are sometimes called “chemical evolution,” which refers to the interaction of chemicals in non-living systems that eventually came together to form the first cell. Abiogenesis is the development of life on Earth from non-living matter, and chemical evolution would be a part of the process. There are a lot of competing theories, and I think it is both interesting and important for scientists to come up with plausible explanations for how life might have arisen, but proving that any model describes how life actually did arise is probably impossible. Instead, we have to go with the best available evidence based on the conditions of early earth and the range of capabilities that living organisms display today.
