What other learner support can young parents claim to help with learning and childcare costs?

A. If the young parent is aged 16-18 at the start of their course, colleges and Connexions PAs can help young parents to claim weekly allowances of up to £30 from Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). For young parents aged 19, help might be available from the Adult Learning Grant (ALG). Young parents in further education may also be able to access their college discretionary support fund to help with their learning costs, but these must not be used to ‘top up’ Care to Learn childcare payments.
