What other issues, aside from sustainable sourcing of timber and other materials, will the SFC address?
SI: The SFC is concerned with addressing all aspects of sustainability. That is: all that creates a healthy balance between environmental conservation, economic development, and social equity. GC: The biggest hurdle we face today preventing us from having sustainable practices in our industry, in my opinion, is that the majority of consumers do not know there is a choice, and even the ones that do know about certification, do not have a wide choice of good, fashionable products to buy. The important work, therefore, is to raise awareness among manufacturers, retailers and and, most importantly, the end consumer.
