The Massachusetts Correctional Institution—Cedar Junction (MCI-Cedar Junction) is a prison, located in Walpole, Massachusetts, in the United States. It was built in the 1950s and is one of two extremely high security (supermax) prisons for male offenders in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Notable prisoners Tom Manning was sentenced to 58 years imprisonment for a series of bombings against targets he believed represented U.S. Imperialism. Stanley Ray Bond, bank robber, died in prison. Albert DeSalvo, otherwise known as the Boston Strangler, was also imprisoned at Walpole. He died of multiple stab wounds at the prison. Richard Colvin Reid, the “Shoe-bomber”, was held at Walpole, while awaiting federal prosecution.
