What other fish (particularly other cichlids) could I keep with African Butterfly Cichlids?
Because cichlids are all territorial, even if some are more mildly so, you can choose to keep the cichlids the more professional way and let your Butterflies have the tank for themselves, as far as territorial fish like cichlids go, rather then forcing them to split it up into smaller and smaller territories (or force them to share territory) where their natural instinct would prefer it otherwise. It’s funny how it’s the amateur fish keepers first instinct to assume if you have cichlids, more cichlids are the ideal choice, yet the opposite is true for most species. With cichlid species tanks are indeed usually the best thing. In this size a tank, with these types of cichlids, there are very many community fish you can go with – pretty much anything that is not aggressive or territorial or too over-active.
