What other fish are compatible with Bettas?
Answer Hi Jamice; The bowl is really too small to have anything else in with him. You would have to get a 10 gallon or larger with a good filter and heater to have more than just the betta. You need one gallon of water for each inch of fish you have in any community tank. And you have to calculate using the adult size of the fish with this rule, not the size of the fish when you buy it. Bettas are an exception to this rule and only need a small amount of water to survive. They do so much better in a tank with a filter and heater though. They have room to keep their fins extended and get plenty of exercise that way. It also gives them tropical temperatures, which most new betta owners aren’t told they need. Some possible tankmates for him in the bigger tank would be neon tetras, cory cats, cherry barbs, rasboras, platies, and khuli loaches. Start slow with just the betta until the tank completes it’s nitrogen cycle and do some reading about new tanks so you know what to do from there wh
