What organization is WorldTeach partnering with?
A. Our partner in Kenya is the Nyumbani Village, a “model settlement for HIV-AIDS affected orphans. This Village is for “double orphans” (where both parents have died.) Many have grandparents or other caregivers who have brought them to Nyumbani Village where they live in individual homes in this newly constructed village, which was dedicated in 2005 by the First Lady of the Republic of Kenya. Nyumbani Village is located about 3 ½ hours north of Nairobi, in Kitui. Nyumbani Village has the goal of housing about 100 families with about 1,000 children and 250 “elderly grandparents.” Occupancy of the Village began in 2006 and is continuing with their new brick-making equipment construction, as well as building individual homes. The school has been open for the academic year.
