PLA products fit into all waste management programs, including recycling and landfill. In addition, PLA products can be composted in approximately 30-45 days in industrial composting facilities, thus providing an alternative in managing waste. Chemical recycling (back into the monomer) and anaerobic digestion (breakdown of PLA without oxygen reducing landfill gas into the atmosphere) are future routes of re-using PLA products.
