What opportunities exist for students to do experimental work?
There are numerous opportunities for students to do experimental work, both in and out of the curriculum. The year-long core courses in biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics all contain extensive laboratory components, as do many of the semester electives and year-long advanced courses. Additionally, there are two active science clubs in the school: DEMONS (Dreamers, Engineers, Mechanics, and Overt Nerds) and ChemClub. Both clubs provide extended opportunities for students to do hands-on science that extends beyond opportunities presented in the classroom. Additionally, the department’s InSPIRE (Interested Students Pursuing Internship Research Experiences) program is designed to place rising students in internships during the summer before their senior year.
