What opportunities are there for parents to be involved?
MPA has both a Mother’s Club and a Father’s Club, which offer many opportunities to be involved in your child’s school. The Mothers’ Club coordinates room parents, fall fundraiser, holiday parties, the Holiday Shop, International Day, and the Book Fair, among other events. The Fathers’ Club sponsors events such as Homecoming pancake breakfast, carnival and picnic, gym nights, and campouts, among other projects. In addition, parents are also very involved in MPA’s annual fundraiser Salute to Excellence, a gala dinner dance with silent and live auctions.
The Parents and Friends Association is an active group within the school community. They support the school both financially and educationally. Both the meetings and functions are well attended. St John the Baptist has a strong partnership with families and the local community. The school has a policy of open communication with parents encouraging them to freely contact the school if they have any concerns or need help in any way. Parents are kept informed about the life of the school through a weekly newsletter. Each week the school holds an Assembly and each term every class presents an assembly item. Parents also assist with canteen, library borrowing, reading groups and at sporting events.
