What oil should be used for a 4 hp Briggs and Stratton lawn mower?
The manufacturers concoct a little different blend for each customer they supply lubricants to, but there is little difference. For instance, with automotive oils, the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) along with the auto manufacturer sets standards, and they’re pretty much all the same. The folks who formulate the oils look at these specs and make sure they include enough of what it takes so they meet them across the board. From the point of view of the lubricant producer, it’s not that tough, and now they can sell their oil under any label and assure all customers that their product meets or exceeds specifications and is “safe” to use.
