Ummm…..ok. Actually that’s not such a stupid question in this day and age. The newer oils are designed for roller lifter cams. They do not have enough zinc and other properties to sufficiently lube the cam and lifters. I think that most synthetics are ok. To date, any large truck oil is ok…..like Rotella T 15w/40. If in doubt, there are plenty of additives on the market to make up for the lacking properties of today’s oil when used in older engines.
