What Ohio regulations address Source Water Protection areas?
Unlike some states, Ohio’s Source Water Protection Program does not currently have specific regulations requiring public water systems to undertake any particular activities. Instead, Ohio EPA encourages public water system owner/operators to take responsibility for developing and implementing a local protection plan within the protection area. This plan should be based on information in their assessment report. Other environmental programs within Ohio EPA and other agencies have regulations authorizing them to restrict certain activities within a designated drinking water source protection area’. These regulations apply to the owner/operator of a facility or business that is operatingor wishes to operatewithin the protection area.
