What officials group is progressing the LAISR agenda?
The main officials’ forum in APEC for progressing the LAISR agenda is Economic Committee (EC). The EC was established at the 6th APEC Ministerial meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1994. During the last year, EC has moved from being a research oriented forum to a policy oriented one. In 2006, EC elected Professor Bob Buckle from New Zealand as its chair for two years. The Economic Committee has been actively progressing the LAISR agenda, culminating in a Forward Work Program for each of the five LAISR work streams. The work program was endorsed by APEC Leaders at the 19th APEC Ministerial Meeting in Sydney, Australia in 2007. The work program consists of a number of seminars, roundtables and workshops targeted to increase understanding and share experiences on structural reform.
