What occurs during Montgomery ProMAT?
Candidates, if accepted, spend 18 months together as a cohort group, beginning in January. Prior to beginning the program, candidates are expected to substitute teach and obtain a positive recommendation from an MCPS school administrator, using MCPS Recommendation Form 445-16. During the first spirng term, candidates take and pay for six (6) credits of evening coursework and books. MCPS pays the tuition for all subsequent JHU coursework, and most books and fees. Upon successful completion of all content coursework, the JHU courses, summer field experience, and the requisite exams, candidates are placed in vacancies as teachers of record for the next academic year receiving a stipend. Candidates document their teaching through a standards-based electronic portfolio to be completed and presented during the second summer.
