What non teaching time is an entitlement for NQTs?

A – NQTs are entitled to the 10% PPA time that applies to all teachers. This time should not be used for cover for absent staff. In addition, NQTs are entitled to a 10% reduction from the timetable of a teacher on main scale. (Technically the two added together add up to a max timetable of 81%). This ‘NQT time’ is set out as an entitlement in the 1999 act to be used for the NQT’s identified professional development needs and therefore not for cover. It is very useful if PPA time and NQT time are clearly identified on the NQTs timetable.
