What new Martial Arts Weapon should I learn?
Oooo! I like these kinds of questions, but most people don’t like my answers. I focus on what is most practical, not what is expected. As a cop and former military man, I go hard-core for that “martial” side of the arts and don’t tend to go near the more historic side. The question is, what “should” you train in? Forget everything else. Although you specify non-blade weapons, knives would be at the top of my list. They can be easily applied, using largely the same motions that you have already learned in your art. They focus on speed, surprise and hidden motion, and thorough instruction will include the best carry sites and drawing motions for modern tactical folders (as well as how to best open them without moving your hand off to the side, away from the space between you and the opponent).
