What new information is available for the camp pendleton fire?
Fire of unknown origin broke out this afternoon on a firing range at Camp Pendleton, but firefighters aren’t getting too close because there may be unexploded ordnance there, a Marine base spokesman said. Instead, firefighters are watching to be sure the fire does not spread to any areas with buildings. There was no size estimate of the fire immediately available, but it was not threatening any structures. Sources reveal that the fire has already burned over 150 acres of land and is continuing to threaten many homes, thus forcing evacuation of the area. The residents have already been notified of mandatory evacuations in the areas near Holmes Street and Wildwood Canyon Road. Initially as many as ten homes were evacuated, but the recent developments suggest that the number of homes that were evacuated due to the threat caused by the blazing fire has leaped up to a whooping 200.
