Are you ready for the eleven best days of summer? The Maryland State Fair is coming to the Timonium Fairgrounds Aug. 28 through Sept. 7. Every year, this state tradition draws in more than half a million visitors with a variety of attractions, events, competitions, rides, entertainment, vendors and of course Thoroughbred Horseracing. Dating back before 1878, several attempts had been made by Maryland businessmen to hold an ongoing fair around surrounding Baltimore areas. The Lutherville Fair, held on a 4-acre site in Lutherville, brought great success, but was forced to find a new home as developments of the North Central Railway were started. By December of 1878, those who started the Lutherville Fair partnered with the Agricultural Society of Baltimore County and leased a 37-acre plot of land on the Timonium Estate (Now the York Turnpike).
