WFAA (Channel 8) is a duPont-Columbia Award-winning and Peabody Award-winning[1] ABC television affiliate serving the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, one of the top ten media markets in North America. In 2009 it became the first local station to ever win the duPont-Columbia Award’s Gold Baton for its “continuing commitment to outstanding investigative reporting.”[2] WFAA’s News 8 Update at 10 is the market’s most-watched late local newscast, and its News 8 at 5 and 6 p.m. are the areas most-watched early evening local newscasts.[citation needed] The station is the flagship of Belo Corporation and the largest ABC affiliate not owned and operated by the network. It is also the largest affiliate of any of the “big four” networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) not owned by that respective network.
