The Respondent has 30 days (not counting the day of service) from the date that he/she is served with a Petition for Dissolution of Marriage to retain counsel, file an appearance with the Clerk of the Circuit Court and respond or otherwise plead to the Petition for Dissolution of Marriage. Failure to do so could result in a default Judgment of Dissolution of Marriage being entered against that party and in favor of the Petitioner for the relief asked for in the Petition.
