What nationality were vikings?

0

The Viking Sea Raiders expanded before the idea of Nationalism existed. Most people, in the past, identified with their tribes or clans. So- Called civilized people usually identified with their city. Even empires really were not nations. The western aspect of the Greco- Roman world still focused upon the city of Rome, for identity, even after it was no longer the center of rule for the empire. The eastern aspect of the Greco- Roman world fixed its identity upon the city of Byzantium, its political center right to the end of its existence. The Vikings successfully colonized places now known as: England, Normandy, Iceland, Greenland, Ireland, and Russia among other places. These colonists expanded from their homelands in what today is known as Scandinavia. They were unsuccessful in their attempt to settle in North America at a place they called Vin-land.
