What muscles to stretch?
According to the society we should stretch particularly those muscles which have been the most active and for runners that’s mainly the Calf muscles, Quads and those Hamstrings. There is also now much evidence to suggest it could be beneficial to stretch the lower-back area as well. You can do this by lying on your back, knees bent and rock the knees from side-to-side rotating the lumbar-spine region. Complaints by runners of pains in feet, calves, knees, hips, ham-strings and quads have regularly been attributed to back problems. There is often no symptom present in the back, but instead it manifests itself in other areas. Remember that even your little toe has its nerve root in the lumbar spine area. Finally if stretching is not already part of your routine, then it’s something you should seriously consider finding the time to include.
