Ismail Haniyeh, Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority and a senior leader of Hamas, recently attacked the peshmarga forces of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in a public Hamas gathering. His unwise remarks fuelled a public outrage among the Kurds, who until recently had been very sympathetic towards the Palestinian people and their cause. The attack on peshmarga forces is meaningless, as they protect Kurdistan’s inhabitants, who are not only Kurds. It is a task that the multinational forces and the Iraqi government security forces together failed to achieve in the Iraqi government controlled areas.
