What method does Sabre utilize in the fabrication of its fiberglass parts?
A. The building technique used in Sabre sailboats is a closed cell PVC foam sandwich. In our power boats we use a closed cell PVC form core sandwich on all running surfaces and balsa core in the deck. Fiberglass is laid over both sides of the foam or end grain balsa forming a “sandwich”. This core offers a stiffer laminate which is stronger and lighter. It is far more resistant to flexing than a solid fiberglass lay-up. Foam and balsa are also excellent thermal and sonic insulators which reduces condensation on the hull interior and a makes a quieter boat all around.
