What metals are used in jewellery?
All metals can be divided into 2 groups: ferrous and non-ferrous. The non-ferrous metals can be subdivided into precious (noble) and base metals. The noble metals are: gold, silver and the so-called platinum 6-group: platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, osmium and ruthenium. The precious metals are called noble because of their superior chemical and physical qualities. Of all 70 pure metals that exist only about 20 are used in jewellery industry and even less are actually part of any jewels manufactured.
