It is not accurate to describe anyone as having any particular mental age based on their IQ. IQ measures very specific attributes of knowledge and is not a true reflection of their full Cognitive capacity. My son is 26 and tests consistently on an IQ test. His IQ has been tested from preschool through last year – always over 40 under 45. What I was told when he was young based on his IQ scores is wholly inaccurate. There are clearly some things he cannot do. He cannot read on any level. He cannot understand mathematics. If you go by absolute intellectual ability you would place him at about 3 years old. But he is able to cook independently. He read the pictures on boxes and can follow the steps. He has picture recipes cards he uses. He does all his own laundry and does it as well as anyone. He can make reasoned decisions about what he wants to do each day and in his future. He has a business where he sells shirts at conferences and can manage it independently with some support at the b
