Currently there is no cure for UC without surgically removing the entire colon, (described below), however effective medical treatment can suppress the inflammatory process allowing the colon to heal and eventually relieving the symptoms patients with UC experience. The three major classes of medications used to treat UC include: Aminosalicylates, Corticosteriods and Immunomodulators.
