There are several medical treatments for osteoporosis. Estrogen therapy has been used to treat osteoporosis for many years. Newer non hormonal treatment options are now available, these are the bisphosphonates, alendronate and risedronate, raloxifene, a selective estrogen receptor modulator and calcitonin.
