What Medications Are Used for Seizures?
Seizures are often caused by epilepsy, a condition that causes changes in the brain and electrical impulses to trigger seizures. A seizure can be mild and barely noticeable, or severe and life threatening, depending on the area in the brain in which the seizure originates. Some individuals experience strange sensations, rapid blinking or numbness in a part of the body as a result of a seizure, while others may become unconscious and violently convulse. Treatments for seizures include medications and in some cases, surgery, according to the Mayo Clinic. Medications may help reduce the occurrence of seizures, and most individuals can eliminate their seizures altogether with the use of an anti-epileptic drug.
