What measures will be incorporated to ensure as near zero carbon state as possible?
We are currently working with sustainability specialists to identify the options available to us to create a low-carbon building. Design will play a part in minimising energy usage by, for example, maximising the use of natural light and ventilation within the building. BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) is the most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings. We will be undertaking a BREEAM assessment of the scheme and are aiming to achieve a BREEAM rating of “Excellent” for our new building. We will also be undertaking the Good Corporate Citizen assessment promoted by the Sustainable Development Commission to review the wider environmental impact of the new hospital.
